The Municipality of Egialia
The Municipality of Egialia is the second largest municipality in Achaia and is located in the northern part of the Peloponnese. Aigio is the seat of the present Municipality of Egialia, while in the past it served as the seat of the former Municipality of Aigio. Due to its geographical location, the city is popular and often referred to as the “balcony of the Corinthian Gulf.”
Today, the Municipality of Egialia is part of the Region of Western Greece and was established through the Kallikratis Program, following the merger of the former municipalities of Aigeira, Erineos, Diakopto, Sympoliteia, Akrata, and Aigio. Its boundaries coincide with those of the former Province of Egialia. The municipality covers an area of 729.42 sq. km and has a population of 46,990 residents (according to the 2021 census), with a coastline stretching 55 kilometers.
The municipal seat, Aigio, is located 175 kilometers from Athens and 40 kilometers from Patras.
