Trekking

The whole Egialia has many beautiful routes.

One of them starts from Diakopto and goes across the Canyon of Vouraikos, then ending in Kalavryta. The Mountaineering Club organizes a trip on the first Sunday of May each year, but you can try it yourselves.

The route to the lake Tsivlou is also amazing, taking about 2 hours. Still, people who like hiking, will find ideal the route that starts from the village of Peristera or Solo (altitude 1000m), close to the lake Tsivlou. Hikers follow an amazing path in the woods, in order to get to the Styx Waterfalls.

Another fantastic route starts from the Monastery of Taxiarchis (Ano Mavriki), passing through the sideways of the mountain Klokos. It takes 2 hours and passes from the river Selinous. Many hikers make all the way, up to the mountain top. The route starts from the derelict hotel in Pteri, by accenting the hill on the left side without following a specific path, until you reach the antenna at the top of the hill. From that point you follow a route on your right to get to the Church of the Prophet Elias. These routes are easy and suitable for beginners.

Lastly, there is a route across the canyon of Peristerionas. From the central road in Ano Akrata, you turn right, at the sign ‘Fournoi’ and start going downwards. At the next junction you turn left and then right. On the dirt road you will continue to walk for 5 minutes, and pass through the river (20 minutes). The level of the water should be low.

Then you will get at the amazing, 30m waterfalls. You can follow the same route to get back. The ideal period to do this is from April to November.

On the first Sunday of May, the descent of the Vouraikos River along the Odontotos railway stands out as a major event.
