The Metropolitan Church of Faneromeni is Aigio’s principal ecclesiastical monument. Designed by Ernst Ziller and built after the devastating earthquake of 1861, it is distinguished by its Byzantine-inspired architecture, imposing dome and remarkable wall paintings. The church remains a landmark of the city’s religious, historical and cultural life.
