Located on Mitropoleos Street, outside the Mouzakitis Jewelry Store, this site marks the location where a hand grenade exploded on the pavement on 16 June 1944. The grenade was thrown by members of the Greek Resistance in an assassination attempt against the German military commander of Aigio, Captain Tenner (A. Tenner), during the German occupation of Greece. Although Tenner was only slightly wounded in the shoulder and hand, the attack led to severe reprisals.Following the incident, resistance member Nikolaos Michalopoulos was identified as a suspect, arrested by the occupying forces, and executed fifteen days later. The original stone pavement, still bearing the scars of the explosion, has been preserved beneath a protective glass covering. Today, it serves as a poignant memorial, reminding passers-by of the courage of the Greek Resistance and the sacrifices made in the struggle against the German occupation during the Second World War.
