This is one of the biggest and most amazing mansions in Aigio, designed by the architect P. Kalkos in 1860. The owner was goldsmith. One of his sons became the biggest trader of raisin and had his own sailing boats in his possession. With his boats he used to carry the raisin from all the seaside villages of Aigio and Corinth and store it at his warehouse.
He processed it and then sold it to the international markets. He managed like that to become the richest businessman in Peloponnese. The building itself is very impressive and has great quality of construction. It is indeed the only three-level, Neoclassical building in Aigio. The main entrance, the balconies, the windows, the painted decoration of the ceilings, the furniture, they all seem to be exceptional pieces of art. In 1859, Italian artists decorated the building, from the interior furniture (French style) to the expensive flooring, with sculptures of great value and other precious objects brought from Europe.
The building is highly connected to the culture, politics and social life of Aigio. Getting in from the central entrance, the visitor will come through a lobby and the central staircase leading to the upper floors. On the ceiling there are golden stars in light blue background, painted on a canvas of rectangular panels.
On the first floor there are two living rooms and the ceiling is of special interest. There is a design in light blue background and in the shape of Greece, which represents the country, free from slavery. It is surrounded by four female figures that represent the arts: Sculpture, Architecture, Music and Painting. The whole building is very impressive and mysterious.
After the death of the owner, the mansion was destroyed. In our days, the building has been renovated and used for exhibitions and other cultural events.
